Company Background

In the mid-1980s, the Irwin Alsop Group, an Australian based multidisciplinary Practice, recognized in Fiji, the shortage of specialist consultants in many disciplines, but in particular the mechanical, electrical and services areas of engineering.  In 1987, Irwin Alsop Pacific Pty Ltd was established to service the Architects of Fiji with these engineering disciplines.

The practice also wished to be able to provide in Fiji, the total range of services to companies establishing or expanding in Fiji and the Pacific, and to act as a base for our consulting services in the Pacific Islands.

Irwin Alsop Pacific had a somewhat slow start due to the coups in Fiji in 1987, but became firmly established due to the Irwin Alsop Group's commitment to the support of a Practice in Fiji. Additional support was given by the Australian Government in commissioning Irwin Alsop Pacific (in 1987) for the engineering consulting services in connection with the new Library project at the University of the South Pacific.  Another commission awarded to the practice was the new wharves and freezer room complex and other work associated with the substantial Australian Aid Package to PAFCO Cannery at Levuka, Fiji.

The Fiji office was initially headed by Services Engineers out of Australia and in 1994 Irwin Alsop Pacific appointed its first local Manager, Warren Yee. Warren Yee, a professional Mechanical Engineer by training was appointed as one of the two Directors of the Company in 1997. He together with long serving Electrical Engineer, George Petersen bought out the Fiji operations in 2002 with a name change to Irwin Alsop Pacific Ltd.  The change in ownership has also seen an increase in the number of strategic alliances with complementing consulting specialist companies formed on a needs and project by project basis including the reestablishment of links with former Irwin Alsop staff now with Irwinconsult, Melbourne.

The company operates out of its own premises located at 19 Domain Road in Suva, Fiji.

Following work associated with the South Pacific Games in Samoa in 2007 and other project prospects it was decided to register an office in Samoa. Irwin Alsop Samoa Ltd, a firm specializing in Consulting Engineering was officially registered in Samoa in 2007. The firm was re-registered in 2009 under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour requirements of the Companies Act 2001.

Over the last thirty years Irwin Alsop Pacific has undertaken projects in American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu and is firmly established, looking forward to the next stage of growth in the Pacific Region.

Focus is given to consulting services which are sympathetic to the economy, climate and the resources of the region.

Irwin Alsop Pacific has the capability, the capacity and the technical backup to undertake any project awarded to the practice.
